I found that my 6th great grandfather had a first wife. Sadly, she died very young, as did all of their children.

Philipp Jacob Schwartz married Anna Margaretha Faath

They had:
Eva Margaretha (7 Oct 1774 - 15 Oct 1774)
Maria Magdalena (7 Oct 1774 - 11 July 1775)
Philipp (7 Oct 1774 - 15 Oct 1774)
Johann Adam (8 Feb 1777 - 29 Oct 1779)

Yes, that is a set of triplets, and they didn't have fertility medications back then. ;)

Anna Margaretha died when Johann Adam was just 5 months old. I can not imagine how much pain this couple must have gone through losing all of their children, then Philipp who also lost his wife. It must have been unbearable. It would be for me.

This was my first Orthodox Pascha (Easter). It was (mostly) wonderful. Instead of paragraphs, i'll just do some bullet points. :)

Candles. Lots of sweet smelling beeswax candles. I have my candle sitting in the living room (for now) and i still get whiffs of honey. You can tell these aren't processed candles. ;) At midnight, everyone's candles get lit from a single candle from the Priest. Well, not all from the priest..it's like a wave effect. One person lights theirs from the Priests then someone lights their candle from that and on and on. It's quite beautiful.

After, we go outside and circle the church 3 times while hymns are sung and church bells rang. (Candles still lit, if the wind didn't blow them out ;) ) Icons are carried in the procession around the church. When we get back to the front of the church, more hymns are sung along with shouts of Христос Воскресе! and Christ is Risen!

When we go back inside, the priest(s) (we had 3 that night) go around the church one by one with incense and chants of Христос Воскресе! Christ is Risen! and Χριστός Ανέστη! I forget how many times this was done, but i think is lasted around 30 minutes.

Then the liturgy and communion. At the end, i kissed the Cross held by the priest and got a blessed red egg. :)

When that is all done, we go to the parish hall where all of the Easter baskets are blessed. Then FEASTING! :)

I'm sure i'm missing details, but the night was a little hazy for me. I got extremely car sick (ugh) on the way down (and on the way home) and wasn't feeling too hot so i spent a lot of time near the door for some cold air. Even through the sickness, it was wonderful! We got there sometime between 11 and 11:30 and i didn't get home until after 5am! Easter/Pascha has always been my favorite holiday and experiencing it through Orthodoxy has only made me love it 100x more. I already can't wait until next year! (And i will definitely be taking more precautions against my car sickness next year.) I will have to post some of the Pascha hymns in another post.

I attended my first liturgy at a Russian Orthodox church this past Sunday (9th March). It also happened to be the Sunday of Orthodoxy. It was awesome! The service was longer than a normal service because it was a special day. In the Russian Orthodox Church, there are no pews to sit down, only a handful of chairs for the elderly or infirm. I'm proud of myself that i stood the entire time! (The service was around 3 hours long).

The chanting was amazing! This parish has some wonderful voices. The smell of the incense was familiar, but i couldn't place what the scent was. It was a very good experience. I really felt at home in this parish. I got a ride from a lovely local family. They were very nice.

After liturgy, during coffee hour, i was introduced to Matushka and the Deacon (I forget their names). They were very nice and welcoming and hope to see me again. I didn't talk to the priest because he seemed busy and i hate being a bother. (I know, i know). But there is next time. :)

I will definitely go back! I am *completely* comfortable in my decision to convert to Orthodoxy. It's what i've been searching and longing for for years. <3 nbsp="" p="">

The Bella Cup comes in two sizes - Small & Large.

The Small is 41mm in diameter and capacity is 20ml. The length of the stem is 23.8mm and length of cup body is 48.1mm.

The Large is 45.5mm is diameter and capacity is 30ml. The length of the stem is 20.3mm and length of cup body is 53.1mm.

The small is for women under 30 who have not given birth vaginally and the large is for women over 30 or who have given birth vaginally.

The Bella cup has a pretty rigid bubble like stem. it reminds me of a caterpillar. If the stem is too long for you, you may trim it as it may be uncomfortable if it's too long. I might trim mine a couple notches. The Bella Cup has two different textured rings around the base of the cup. For me, these weren't helpful grip rings in aiding in removal. The smooth silicone can get slippery, but it isn't really difficult to remove.

The Bella Cup is a pretty soft cup, it's very comfortable. It has 4 air/suction holes right under the rim. It also has 'Bella' stamped into the silicone on the inside rim. The Bella Cup is extremely easy to clean. The silicone is very smooth and glossy.

The Bella Cup website has a very nice User Guide.

The LuvUr Body menstrual cup is quite a unique cup. It has raised flowers all around the outside of the cup, but not so raised that it is hard to clean. This menstrual cup comes in 3 colors - Dark Green, Red, and White and 2 sizes - Medium and Large.

The Medium is 45mm in diameter, 61.7mm in total length, stem is 20.3mm and capacity is 31ml.
The Large is 48mm in diameter, 56.7mm in total length, stem is 20.3mm and capacity is 34.5ml.

I think the LuvUr Body cup is one of the longest and highest capacity cups in the market. LuvUr Body is a Nigerian company with excellent customer service. Their cups are manufactured in Malaysia of 100% Medical Grade Silicone.

From the LuvUr Body site:

In deciding to make both our menstrual cup sizes ample in terms of
volume, we realized that alot of women suffer from simply very heavy
menstrual flow or such medical conditions such as hormonal imbalance,
polyps, fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease which all
cause heavy menstrual periods. For such women obviously, the smaller cup
brands will not adequately cater for their needs. A much larger
menstrual cup is actually what they need.

In some ethnic communities in Africa where multiple births is the
norm ie: having between 4-12 kids most times by natural birth with or
without episiotomies larger sized cups will provide the much needed
"better grip" against the vaginal muscle slackness that occurs over
time. In some African countries where more advanced methods of
contraception such as Nuva Rings, Diaphragms, Cervical caps,
spermicides, birth control pills, Arm Implants, are not known or readily
available the IUD and birth control injections are the primary form of
contraception administered to women, it is also good to bear in mind
that the IUD characteristically causes VERY HEAVY menstrual flow as a
side effect. Most women that use them due to heavy flow may have to
double pads or use 2-3 doubled pads to back-up a Super or Super plus
tampon. Women that have fibroids and use IUD's will experience
particularly very heavy menstrual flow.

The LuvUr Body cup has 4 suction/air holes up under the rim. On the inside of the cup, there are little air vents around the holes. "LuvUr Body" is stamped on the inside rim of the cup. There are also measuring lines at 7.5ml and 15ml on the inside of the cup. If you find that the stem is a bit too long, you can trim it up to the ball part of the stem. The stem is a tad long for me, but it's too pretty for me to cut so i just left it. :)
You can wear the LuvUr Body menstrual cup for up to 12 hours before emptying. I found on my heavy day that i could wear this cup for about 9.5 hours before emptying which is great for when you're out and about or at work/school! It is easy to insert and take out & very comfortable. I did have a little trouble with getting it to open - my cervix kept getting in the way - but i found that if i gave the cup a little turn, it opened easily. I like using the punchdown fold with this cup. This is a good cup if your cervix gets lower while on your period as you still have ample capacity even when your cervix goes into the cup.
I recently received a Femmecup and a bottle of Femmewash for review. Femmecup is made in the UK of clear FDA approved medical grade silicone and is BPA and phthalate free. It comes in one size. It is 45mm in diameter, 50mm in length and can hold 30ml to the rim and about 18ml to the air/suction holes. Femmecup can be worn for up to 12 hours before removing and cleaning.

Femmecup has 4 large suction holes under the rim that slant horizontally. It has measuring lines at 5ml and 10ml. The Femmecup's body is super soft while the rim is firm. The Femmecup has a short stem with a raised spiral to help with gripping it. The bottom of the cup also has a spiral for gripping. The cost is £17.99 or about $29.71.

I like the Femmecup, it is great for my moderate/light days. I used the punchdown fold with this cup, it opens straight away. This cup had absolutely no trouble opening due to the firm, springy rim. Its body under the rim is super soft, the softest i've felt! I did have a bit of trouble with removal because of the firm rim.
The Femmewash is a gentle, all natural feminine wash that is certified vegan and not tested on animals. It is pH balanced and hypoallergenic which makes it perfect for sensitive areas. You can use it as an everyday feminine wash and/or use it to wash your hands and menstrual cup. The fragrance is quite pleasant, a bit like roses. It comes in a 200ml size which will last quite a while. I find just 2 drops to be sufficient to wash both my hands and menstrual cup. I definitely recommend getting a bottle. The cost is £5.49 or about $9.06. Shelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02956337140229784310noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5068329367185791208.post-15828512848666322332013-12-02T14:42:00.000-05:002013-12-09T00:05:20.482-05:00Diva Cup Review & GIVEAWAY (CLOSED)

The diva cup has 4 suction/air holes near the rim of the cup. It has a hollow stem with grip rings and grip rings around the bottom of the cup to help with removal. The Diva Cup has measuring lines on the inside of the cup at the 7.5ml (1/4oz) & 15ml (1/2oz) mark. There is a gentle, slight rim at the 15ml mark before the upper rim. "Made in Canada", "The Diva Cup" & the number indicating size (1 or 2) is stamped into the silicone on the inside of the rim. The Diva Cup is shaped a bit like an ice cream cone. :)

The Diva Cup comes with a cotton pouch and a flower pin that says Diva. The instruction sheet is printed in 4 languages: English, Spanish, French & German. The Diva Cup was founded in 2003 by a mother/daughter team.

I really like The Diva Cup. It's not too firm and is smooth and silky feeling. The Diva Cup is easy to insert and remove and pops open easily. When inserted you can't even feel it! I like using the 7-fold with this cup. The grip rings at the bottom of the cup are nice and helpful in aiding in removal. I do wish the stem was a bit longer though. (That is my only complaint). Unless you have a higher cervix, you will find the stem length is fine for you or may even trim it off completely. The Diva Cup is easy to clean too. Just a bit of mild soap (or DivaWash) and water and you're good to go! This cup is good for going out and about or just lounging at home. You may even forget you're on your period!
This past month i tried out the Ruby Cup. Ruby Cup was designed in Denmark and is made of 100% Medical grade silicone. The Ruby Cup is FDA approved. The Ruby Cup comes in a nice cotton bag, seen above. This is a one-size cup. Its diameter is 45mm, length with stem is 68mm, length without stem is 51mm, and its capacity is 34ml. This cup has 4 suction holes near the rim of the cup. On the inside rim, Ruby Cup is stamped into the silicone. There are measuring lines in the inside of the body at 5ml, 10ml & 15ml.
Ruby Cup is a great company! For every cup purchased, they donate one cup to a school girl in Kenya helping her to stay in school. Often times the girls will miss school while on their periods because they don't have adequate protection. Ruby Cup helps them to stay in school so they can get a good education.

I love this cup! It is easy to insert and it pops open nicely. It has a bit of a hollow stem with fabulous grippy bumps on it! I have to say, out of all of the cups i have tried, i think Ruby Cup has the best stem! I love it. The grip bumps are very helpful in wiggling the cup down. The silicone of the Ruby Cup has a matte like finish and feels a bit silky. I liked using the 7-fold with this cup, but you can use whichever one you're most comfortable with. The Ruby Cup was easy to clean, i had no trouble cleaning out the air holes. Going back to the stem, i like the length of it as well. I didn't need to trim it and found it to be the perfect length. You can trim it if it's a bit long for you (being careful not to put a hole in your cup), but i didn't need to.

The Lunette menstrual cup is made of 100% medical grade silicone in Finland. The Lunette cup is also FDA approved. The Lunette comes in several colors as well as clear. They have a bit of a "matte" finish instead of a shiny silicone. (Which i quite like). These cups come with a pretty satin bag (mine was a bright, pretty yellow!) with little flowers stamped on them all over and a handy instruction leaflet. The packaging is made of recycled material, which i LOVE.

The Lunette cups are totally smooth on the inside which make cleaning pretty simple. A trick i've learned for when the air holes (which there are 4 of) get a bit clogged is to fill the cup with water then place my hand over the top of the cup and squeeze the cup with my other hand so the water is forced out of the air holes, clearing them. Very easy! On the outside of the cup, "Lunette" and "Made in Finland" is stamped on the rim and there are 2 measuring lines on the outside body of the cup. These markings are very subtle, you can't feel them. For Model 1, the measuring lines are placed at 5ml and 13.5ml. On Model 2, they are placed at 7.5ml and 15ml.

The Lunette cup is a soft cup and shaped like a little bell. It's not as soft as a soft Meluna, but still pretty soft. The Lunette has raised grip rings around the bottom of the cup to help with removal as well as a very flexible tab like stem (which also has grip lines). The stem can be trimmed if needed, but try the cup out before you trim any of the stem off as you may not need to. You can always trim it, but you can't make it longer again!

Lunette cups are $39.99. You can order from the Lunette site or one of their retailers. This may seem like a lot of money, but think about how much you normally spend on tampons and/or pads a month. Lunette cups last for years so it's a great investment, both for your pocket book and your body. They are also great for the environment - No throwing away tons of tampons/pads every year and filling up our landfills even more. Just one little cup.

Lunette cups are very easy to care for. Before first use and after the end of each period, simply boil for 5 minutes or use Lunette's Disinfecting Wipes (sold seperately). You can also buy sterilizing tabs (Such as Milton's), but i find boiling works great and is fast and simple. Each time you empty your cup during your cycle, just rinse it out with cold water then wash with a mild soap and warm water. If you're out and about and need to empty and have no sink close by, you can either wipe it out with a bit of toilet paper or a disinfecting wipe and wash it the next time you empty it.

Lunette cups can be worn up to 12 hours before emptying, but this is different for everyone. On heavy flow days, you may need to empty it every 4 hours (as i do).

Inserting your Lunette cup is very easy. There are several different folds you can use (Pictured are C fold, Punchdown fold and 7 fold). I like using the 7 fold with my Lunette cup. The Lunette cup pops oven easily and forms a nice seal. To empty, grasp the stem (or bottom of cup if you cut off the stem) and pull down gently while wiggling it back and forth to break the seal. You can also insert your finger next to the cup and press it inwards to break the seal. Then just grasp the bottom of the cup, pull it out and dump the contents in the toilet, clean it and re-insert.

The Lunette cup is a very nice menstrual cup. Once inserted, you can not feel it. It's not too firm or too soft. If you have a high cervix, you may not even need to trim the stem (like me). I had no leaking issues with this cup. On your heavy flow days, you may need to use a pad as backup overnight (I use cloth). I find that if i get up once during the night on my heavy day and empty the cup, i have no leaks overnight. This is no problem for me as i usually wake up several times during the night anyway. Using a cup such as Lunette may also shorten and lighten your periods! I say give the Lunette menstrual cup a try! You've got nothing to lose!
They are made with 4 layers of soft flannel. I could not pass up these prints! These were a little too short for me, but i will continue to wear them. They are great as menstrual cup backup! She prewashes her fabrics so the pads don't shrink in the wash. She ships out your products very fast. I got my liners in 2 or 3 days. Her items are very well made.

I decided to check my email before bed last night and am go glad i did! I received several emails from my former Russian teacher! I hadn't talked to her in a while. I emailed her to tell her about my interest in Orthodoxy. She's delighted! It's so nice to have someone to talk Orthodoxy with who has been Orthodox all of their life. I'm hoping i'll be able to attend church with her at the end of the month when i'm visiting in NJ. That will be a real treat, though i'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. I will be bringing a skirt and scarf with me just in case though.

There is a Monastery about an hour away from me in Jordanville that we both hope to visit. It's absolutely beautiful! Hopefully soon we will visit.

I recently got 2 Meluna menstrual cups, a small soft and a medium soft, both with a ring stem. I've used cloth pads for years but decided i wanted a change. Meluna cups are one of the least expensive brands. I got both cups for about $30 including shipping. These cups come in a lot of fun colors, including some with glitter. They're made from TPE (thermoplastic elastomer). Produced in Germany, the TPE is approved for the manufacture of medical products and devices. You can read more about that HERE.

Melunas come in several different sizes: Small, Medium, Large and Extra large as well as Small mini and Medium mini which are a bit shorter. They also have several different stem options and soft, classic or sport firmness. They have a handy guide on their website (which i've linked above) to help you pick a size for you.

This is the packaging my Meluna cups came in. You can see the folded purple pouches behind the cups. The small is on the left, the medium is on the right.

I received my cups at the end of my last cycle. I've had the chance to use both the medium and small cups. I quite like them! They come in a nice dark purple drawstring pouch. They are soft and easy to insert. I did have a little trouble at the beginning of this cycle getting them to open, but i found a fold that works for me to get them opening easier. (Labia fold if you're curious. There are numerous videos on youtube with different cup folding techniques.) I've only had one leak: overnight on my heaviest day. The next night (also a heavier day) i got up to empty my cup one of the times i woke during the night (around 4:30am) and i had no leaks. Meluna cups are very comfortable. Once inserted you can not even feel them! I'm very happy with my purchase and plan to get another for my sister.
Edited to add - Now that my cycle is completely over, I've found that it was even shorter in length than when i switched to cloth pads back in late 2007! That's always a big plus for me.
I originally wanted Abounding Peace but it was taken. It's based on Psalm 72:7 -

"In his days may the righteous flourish, and peace abound, till the moon be no more!" (ESV)

And Isaiah 54:13 -

"All your children will be disciples of the LORD— I will make peace abound for your children." (CEB)

In discovering Orthodoxy, I definitely have Peace Abounding with my decision that this is the right path for me. <3 br=""></3>
Her name was Bethia Hopkins. She married Samuel Stocking in Connecticut. I think this is really neat because Bethia has been on my favorite names list for quite some time. Bethia can be a variation of the Hebrew Bithia meaning "daughter (worshiper) of Jehovah or from the Scottish Beathag meaning "Life".Shelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02956337140229784310noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5068329367185791208.post-8261778446399171532012-03-07T20:10:00.000-05:002012-03-07T20:10:44.868-05:00Granny Stripes!I'm in LOVE with granny stripes! They're so easy to do, and work up pretty quickly too. I've got 3 started for various friends/family. I have some of the yarn for each blanket, not all of it, which is why i'm not finishing one before starting the other.

A. is cream, bright blue & purple. I don't have a pic of this one yet.

B. is white alternating with color. I'm probably going to stick with dark colors. I like how they pop against the white.
C. is brown alternating with pastels to match baby's nursery.
B & C aren't finding out the gender of the baby, so they're gender neutral. A is already here and a girl.
Shelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02956337140229784310noreply@blogger.com0
