Meluna Cup Review

Photo from Meluna website, linked below.

I recently got 2 Meluna menstrual cups, a small soft and a medium soft, both with a ring stem. I've used cloth pads for years but decided i wanted a change. Meluna cups are one of the least expensive brands. I got both cups for about $30 including shipping. These cups come in a lot of fun colors, including some with glitter. They're made from TPE (thermoplastic elastomer). Produced in Germany, the TPE is approved for the manufacture of medical products and devices. You can read more about that HERE.

Melunas come in several different sizes: Small, Medium, Large and Extra large as well as Small mini and Medium mini which are a bit shorter. They also have several different stem options and soft, classic or sport firmness. They have a handy guide on their website (which i've linked above) to help you pick a size for you.
This is the packaging my Meluna cups came in. You can see the folded purple pouches behind the cups.  The small is on the left, the medium is on the right.

I received my cups at the end of my last cycle. I've had the chance to use both the medium and small cups. I quite like them! They come in a nice dark purple drawstring pouch. They are soft and easy to insert. I did have a little trouble at the beginning of this cycle getting them to open, but i found a fold that works for me to get them opening easier. (Labia fold if you're curious. There are numerous videos on youtube with different cup folding techniques.) I've only had one leak: overnight on my heaviest day. The next night (also a heavier day) i got up to empty my cup one of the times i woke during the night (around 4:30am) and i had no leaks. Meluna cups are very comfortable. Once inserted you can not even feel them! I'm very happy with my purchase and plan to get another for my sister.

Edited to add - Now that my cycle is completely over, I've found that it was even shorter in length than when i switched to cloth pads back in late 2007! That's always a big plus for me.

  1. Hi! I have a MeLuna Mini Small and love it! But I'm wondering how you got a mini small glitter. Where did you order from? I would love to get one, but I have not found the minis in glitter at all recently, especially not in soft!

    1. Hi! I got a regular small, not a mini. I ordered straight from the Meluna site.

    2. Oh! For some reason, they looked like Minis to me. Must have read wrong.
But that stinks because I really want them to make Glitter Minis. Oh well.

  2. I love it! It's so good to see there are more such products coming on the market these days. I used to use the Keeper, and like your review, when it was in, I could not feel it at all.

    1. Yes! A cup is so much easier than pads, especially while out. More comfortable too.
